Dyshidrotic Eczema (Pompholyx)

An itchy hand/foot eczema with tiny, deep “tapioca-like” blisters on the sides of fingers, palms, and soles.

Triggers

  • Stress, sweat, heat, nickel or other metal exposure (jewelry, keys), detergents, frequent hand-washing.

Symptoms

  • Itchy, burning blisters that can crack and peel.
  • Flares last a few weeks; can recur.

Care at home

  • Cool compresses; thick moisturizers after washing.
  • Avoid known triggers; wear cotton liners under waterproof gloves for wet work.

Treatment

  • Prescription steroid creams/ointments (often high-potency for hands/feet).
  • For frequent flares: phototherapy or medicated pills may be considered by your clinician.
  • If infected (very red, painful, oozing), seek care.
